Wilpshire GC v Longridge GC Tuesday 2nd September 2026
The weather forecast offered mixed fortunes for both teams but play finally got underway after a cancellation through bad weather.
No Brendan in the starting line up but was present throughout, with Andy Brown and Stewart Cook taking on heavyweights from Longridge Dave Carling and former UK Seniors Golf Champion Jez Morgan. Reputations counted for nothing for Andy and Stewart, brushing them aside with a 3 & 1 win.
Next John Glynn and Peter Livesey took charge against Shaun Graham and Longridge top man Martin Grey and again the home pair won 3 & 2.
Richard Dawson and Lenny Gillett also won 3 & 2 against Dave Kelly and Keith Horam, whilst in the fourth game Steve Schfield and Gerry Girvan were 2 up winners against Bill Conn and Mark Woods.
With Wayne Howarth, freshly retired and Kevin Young who has been retired forever, took on ever reliable accountant Andrew Tillotson and partner Paul Oliver. With Wayne giving the shots its no disgrace to lose to the Longridge pair 1 & 2.
Last Jack Taylor, returning having been dropped last week even though he and his partner won, along with Mr. steady Paul Hunter restored Wilpshire’s wins with a comprehensive 6 & 5 against Lenny Wright and Jed Dewhurst. Two days competitive matches must have got to the away pair as they normally play in very close games.
Great result for the home team, could there be a new name on that trophy? Key date is the 15th September.

Hurlston Hall GC v Longridge GC 1st September 2026
Hurlston were pleased and excited to welcome the gladiators from Longridge to West Lancashire on a dry, somewhat sunny day with light winds from a south westerly direction for our final home fixture of the 2026 NWSL season. The greens still being impacted by recent maintenance work made putting more testing than should have been the case, however the comment ‘the best putting surface was on the only temp’ during the post-match repast was met by a combination of derisory groans and nods of approval by the gathered ensemble. The 1st tee time was 11:04am and the games played out as follows:
Match 1: (Hurlston) Derek ‘Captain Marvel’ Doyle (6 shots) & Neil Burkhill (2) won a hard fought match against Roger Cain (0) & Ged Forrest (7) eventually winning 2&1.
Match 2: (Hurlston) Mike ‘multi-sport’ Taylor (2) & Peter Gaunt (3) took an early lead against Martin ‘Captain’ Gray (0) & Shaun Graham (0) never looking back and running out comfortable 4&3 winners.
Match 3: (Longridge) the formidable duo of Jez Morgan (0) & Dave Carling (7) were never behind against Paul Mosses (8) & Andy Cadley (5) and leading 1 up heading down the 18th. The Hurlston pairing were able to win the final hole thereby securing an unexpected but most welcome half.
Match 4: (Hurlston) Gary Almond (5) & John Williams (5) took a commanding early lead against Dave Kelly (0) & Keith Horam (4) who fought back but the Hurlston boys eventually ran out 3&1 winners.
Match 5: (Hurlston) Leigh McEvoy (2) & Alec Campbell (4) played to a draw against Bill Conn (2) & Andrew Tillotson (0) in what was a nail biting ending.
Match 6: (Longridge) Ged Dewhurst (2) & Lenny Wright (0) played exceptional golf to secure a 5&4 defeat of James ‘I never lose at home’ Milner (1) & Rod Duvall (1).
It’s always an honour and a pleasure to host Longridge and the fact we take immense pride for winning on the day is a testament to the respect and admiration we have for Martin and his team.

Mersey Valley GC entertained Hindley Hall for the first time and a great game ensued.
David Richardson and Mark Peters took on Dean Benson and League President Anthoney Skeet winning a creditable 4 & 3 win.
Next up Alan Robinsona and Simon Prendegast had a close game against Gary Matthews Keith Duxbury with the home side winning one up.
Peter Connor and Paul Jackson recorded a 4 & 3 win against Colin White and Mick Lowe, and the next three games were close with the home team winning each one up.
George Need and John Fleck against Paul Entwistle and Mick McCarthy.
Colin Hardman and Stuart Ogilvie against Dennis Sheffield and Graham Rigby.
Dave McCann and Phil Bennett against Alan Derbyshire and Bradley James.

Hart Common GC v Longridge GC Tuesday 25th August 2026
Attempting to recover from last weeks defeat Hart Common GC took on League Champions Longridge GC at home.
They did not start well losing their first two games. Steve Edmonds and Kevin Sykes lost 4 & 3 to Ian Hacking and Mark Woods were awesome against usually reliable Hart Common organising duo Tony Robinson and Chris Radcliffe the away pair winning 7 & 6. Dave Smith and Eric Dawber started a rout of their own winning 7 & 6 against Dave Carling and good to see playing again Jez Morgan.
Tony Whitehead and Chris Mugan could not be separated from Dave Kelly and Lenny Wright with the game a draw.
Phil Hawker and Nigel Nettelfield recorded a great win over Ged Dewhurst and Andrew Tillotson a 6 & 5 win.
Roy Smith and Mark Royle also recorded a creditable win against Alistair Sheret and ever present Bill Conn, 3 & 2.

Hindley Hall GC v Hart Common GC Tuesday 18th August 2026
Hindley Hall GC trying to remain in the top four to qualify for the Knockout Trophy, entertained local rivals Hart Common GC.
Dennis Sheffield and Craig Gaskell took on club organisers Tony Robinson and John Starr, the latter good to see playing in the league again. The home pair won the spoils with a 4 & 3 win.
Next, Keith Stokes and Kevin Leyland won 3 & 2 against Steve Edmonds and Kevin Sykes.
Hindley Red Gary Matthews with regular partner Kieth Duxbury had a comprehensive win 6 & 5 against Eddie Tomlinson and Phil Hawker.
League President Anthoney Skeet and partner Glyn Jones beat Mark Darce and Phil Thomas 3 & 2, whilst the next pair of Colin White and Mick Lowe defeated Stewart Brooks and Nigel Nettlefield again 3 & 2.
To conclude the rout Alan Derbyshire and Gary Wright saw off Chris Mugan and John Armstrong 4 & 3.

Monday 17th August Hurlston Hall GC v Dean Wood GC
Top of the table Dean Wood arrived bright and early at Hurlston Hall to be met by cloudy skies, bone dry fairways and greens still recovering from a recent scarifying exercise.
Match 1: (Dean Wood) Dave Jenkins (2 shots) & Paul Latham (0) played a high-quality match versus Andy Cadley (3) & Ian Tolman (2). The match was level going down the 17th; however, Dave sank a good putt to win the hole and the 18th was tied. 1 Up to Dean Wood.
Match 2: (Hurlston) Kevin Spooner (0) & Bernie Grady (7) had a putt on the 18th to win the hole and halve the match, unfortunately it didn’t drop. 1 Up to Ian Childs (2) & Keith Roby (2).
Match 3: (Hurlston) Derek Doyle (3) & Chris Lawless (4) were 2 Up with 2 to play versus Martin Jones (1) & Mark Sobey (0) however Martin & Mark won the last 2 holes to halve the match.
Match 4: (Hurlston) Dave Hall (5) & Paul Halliday (0) won 1 Up versus Mike Purvis (2) & Jon Millward (1).
Match 5: (Dean Wood) Ian Crossley (1) & Harry Milligan won 3&1 versus Steve Williams (4) & Rod Duvall (3).
Match 6: (Dean Wood) Steve Parsley (0) & Mark Pritchard (0) won 5&3 against John Williams (5) & Martin Mitchell (7).
Dean Wood brought a very strong focussed team and although only gaining 11 shots, compared to 43 for Hurlston, the calibre of their play shone through, winning some tight matches. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Dean Wood continuing success for the remainder of the season.

Dean Wood GC v Mersey Valley GC – 13th August 2026
The weather forecasters predicted one of the hottest days of the year today, one day after the glorious 12th. So, the parkland wooded Dean area perfect for golf, first out was Martin Jones and Frank Brocklebank took on Mersey Valley’s David Richardson and Alan Robinson, with two 9 handicap golfers on either side, the 3 & 1 home win must have been a great game.
Next out Adrian Brown and Derek Jolley played Simon Prendergast and John Fleck with the home pair recording a 4 & 2win.
Andy Postlethwaite and Bernard Ingham held on for a 1 up win against Colin Hardman and Rob Atherton.
Dave Jenkins and Keith Roby against Stuart Oglivie and Mark Peters could not be separated and end their match with a honourable draw.
Paul Latham and Ian Crossley returned the home wins with a 5 & 4 win against Paul Jackson and Tony Newall.
Finally, Mark Pritchard and Steve Parsley against Phil Bennett and Keith Rawlingson, resulted in a close game with the home pair winning 2 & 1.

Mytton Fold GC v Hurlston Hall GC – 13th August 2026
Great weather greeted the players to Langho and a warm welcome from the Mytton team.
Dave Pennington and David Eyles had Andy Cadley and James Milner to contend with and were too hot for the Hurlston pair losing 3 & 2 to them in a close game.
Next, Peter Sharpe and Angus Barr seemed to have a great close game against Derek Dole and Peter Gaunt as the away pair just managed a 1 up win.
Alan Rogers and Tony Monks restored MF pride with a 2 & 1 win against Tony Rice and Paul Jackson, but the Hurlston juggernaut woke up and in the next game Neil Burkhill and Paul Halliday inflicted a 2 & 1 win against the home pair of David Proctor and Chris Quinn.
For gourmet chef and great guy Steve Worrall partnered ever present Steve Golding but could not conjure a winning recipe losing 2 & 1 to Martin Iserwood and Chris Lawless.
Last to play were Mick Bryan and Ewan Mackenzie up against John Sharpes and John Dixon but also succumbed to the Hurlston pace losing 3 & 2.

New league leaders at NWSL with Wilpshire GC going top after an away win against Hart Common GC and Longridge GC getting comprehensively beaten at Hindley Hall GC reports below.
Hart Common GC v Wilpshire GC – Tuesday 11th August 2026
Fifth heatwave of the year saw Hart Common welcome Wilpshire GC players to their excellent course, although the lack of rain has affected every golf club.
Tony Robinson and Chris Radcliffe played against newly retired Wayne Howarth and Kevin Young. A great start for the away team with a win.
Next, Unbeaten pair from Wilpshire of Jack Taylor and Ken Craven took on Steve Edmonds and Kevin Sykes and inflicted a great home win 5 & 4.
Third out Tom Aspey and Phil Hawker entertained John Glynn and Alan Creswell and in a closely fought game it ended all square.
Chris Mugan and John Armstrong played against Gerry Girvan and Paul Wareing and again spoils were all square with a half.
Dave Smith and Eric Dawber held on for a creditable 3 & 2 win against dentist Steve Scofield and retired MD of Blackburn Rover Tom Finn.
Last out Mark Dacre and Tony Whitehead took on Richard Dawson and Brendan Barratt, Brendan receiving 11 shots on the home pair and that proved decisive as the away pair won one up to secure a great away result for Wilpshire GC.

Hindley Hall GC v Longridge GC – Tuesday 11th August 2026
Again, great weather for golf with retired Fireman Martin Grey and partner Graham White taking on Dennis Shffield and Graham Rigby. The home side certainly put out the away players heat with a great 6 & 5 win.
Next, Ken Stokes and partner Kevin Leyland took on retired Kirby salesman Ged Forrest and Shaun Graham with the home pair emerging winners in a closely fought match 4 & 3.
Gazza Matthews and Ken Duxbury defeated David Kelly and Keith Horam, despite Gazza giving shots 2 & 1.
Next out Glyn Jones and Keith Aspey played the ever competitor Dave Carling and nice guy Michael Dennison. The away pair the only winners from reigning champions on the day 4 & 3.
Colin White and Mick Lowe restored home advantage with a 2 & 1 win against Bill conn and Paul Oliver.
Last out Alan Derbyshire and Daren Hughes again had a close game Andrew Tillotson and Andrew Moreton winning another close game 2 & 1.

Mersey Valley GC v Mytton Fold GC – Thursday 6th August 2026
Seventh and eight placed teams met at Bold Heath today; no disgrace being in those positions as the NWSL is renown for being the most competitive and played at such a high standard.
Bob Hornby, the lowest handicap of the four players along with partner Mark Peters recorded a great one up win against Steve Worrall and Stephen Golding as the away pairing receiving a total of 17 shots. However, this is why we have handicaps and it appears that not just because of this fourball, but in general the decision to play 75% handicap difference this season appears to be working.
Stuart Ogilvie and Jim Kayes came up against Mytton Fold’s silent assassins in Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick, rarely beaten and quite an achievement to win away 3 & 1 on a course they probably haven’t played before.
Colin Hardman and John Fleck could not be separated from Alan Rogers and David Eyles with the fourball even after 18 holes.
Tony Callaghan and Simon Prendergast also could not be separated from their away pair in Mick Bryan and Ewan Mackenzie recording another drawn game.
Alan Robinson and Dave McCann were giving nine shots to opponents Geoff Holtom and John Hindle but still managed a creditable 3 & 1 home win.
Dave Richardson, Mersey Valley team manager is doing a great job for his Club; results for the NWSL on time and concise. Makes my job really easy - NF; thank you. He partnered Peter Connor who suffered a defeat one down to the ever present away pair of Sam Cowan and Peter Sharpe.
So, a much-welcomed win for Mersey Valley GC.

Hart Common GC v Dean Wood GC – Thursday 6th August 2026
With an average handicap index for both Clubs at 11.6 this was always going to be a close encounter and so it proved to be with what looked like some great games played.
First up Shaun Kelly and Neil Flanagan took on Dave Sim and Ronnie Cannon with the away pair recording a great 4 & 2 win. This followed a match halved in the second game between Paul Rushby and John Armstrong against Mark Pritchard and Mike Purvis.
Singing star Tony Robinson along with partner Les Goodier seemed to be out of tune as they lost to Dougie Ashall and Paul Latham 4 & 3.
Mark Dacre and Tony Whitehead restored the home sides pride with a creditable 5 & 4 win over Dave Ward and Bernard Ingham.
Stewart Brooks and Stato Chris Radcliffe recorded a win against Ian Childs and Keith Roby 2 up, close match.
Last Tom Aspey and Phil Hawker could only manage a draw against Dave Jenkins and Martin Jones securing a win away for inform Dean Wood GC who leapfrog Wilpshire GC into second place.

Wilpshire GC v Hindley Hall GC – Wednesday 5th August 2026
The twelve players from the away Club Hindley Hall GC were all present before any of the home team turned up today. Apparently, the tee time had been put back to 11:50am from 10:30am to accommodate a visiting party!
Eventually and with in blustery but dry conditions but with intermittent rain forecast, Ken Craven and Jack Taylor played against Keith Stokes and Trevor Leyland. It is rare for an away player to be giving shots, but off a fabulous 7 handicap Keith was giving Ken and Jack shots, the latter Jack 8!
Inevitably with that number of shots for Jack the home pair emerged 4 & 3 winners.
Paul Wareing sporting a new look beard; resembling Forrest Gump; along with ever present Gerry Girvan were held to a draw against Gary Matthews and Keith Duxberry.
John Glynn and Alan Caswell held off the away pair of Phil Mercer and Keith Aspey, winning 2 & 1.
Lenny Gillett and Paul Hunter seemed to have a great close game against this year’s President of the League Anthony Skeet and partner Darren Hughs, with the home team winning 1 up.
West Yorkshire’s the only one Dicky Dawson and Irishman Brendan Barrett must have talked poor Graham Rigby and Dennis Sheffield to death as the managed a creditable 2 & 1 home win.
Recently retired and international traveller executive Wayne Howarth partnered Blue Mooner Kevin Young to record a 3 & 1 win against Alan Derbyshire and Colin White.

Mytton Fold GC v Hart Common GC – 30th July 2026
Both teams enjoying interrupting sunshine on a warm but blustery day at Mytton Fold, but as Secretary/administrator I was personally delighted when opening Alan Rogers message to se Mick Bryan playing again. Mick has gone to hell and back with a terrible illness that saw him in hospital for a number of weeks and a staggering weight loss during his treatment.
But the NHS didn’t take away his determination and partnering alongside Sam Cowan recorded a 3 & 2 win against visitors the two Roy’s Smith and Cunniff.
Next, another close friend and sufferer with illness Steve Worrall; Steve would have been whizzing around the course in his ‘Madge’ (ride on), along with partner Steve Golding had a 2 up win over Stewart Brooks and Chris Radciliffe.
Third to start was Captain Alan Rogers and Tony Monks against normally reliable winners Steve Edmonds and Tom Aspey but the home pair had a one up win against the away pair.
Probably unbeaten pair Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick saw of Eddie Tomlinson and Damian Walshe 4 & 2.
Mick Mahon played after the exploits of Bromborough GC earlier in the week on the Maxi Tour along with Peter Main and against Neil Flanagan and Phil Hawker secured another 2 & 1 win.
The Final Mytton Fold pair could not complete the whitewash of Hart Common with a draw against Mark Darcre and John Armstrong as the four shared a point each.
Great win for Mytton Fold GC after only one win up to now in the League.

Longridge GC vs Wilpshire GC 29 July 2026
Longridge welcomed their long-standing rivals Wilpshire for a top‑of‑the‑table clash, with perfect golfing conditions: warm weather, clear skies and barely a breath of wind.
Match 1 Roger Cain and Ged Forest faced low‑handicap pairing Paul Gilston and Paul Hunter. The match remained tight throughout, never more than one hole in it. The turning point came at the 16th, where the Longridge pair went dormie two. On the 17th, Ged produced a superb chip‑in eagle to secure a 3&1 victory.
Match 2 Home captain Martin Gray and Shaun Graham took on Kevin Young and Alan Caswell. The Longridge pair led from the outset, maintaining control and closing out an excellent 4&2 win on the 16th.
Match 3 Jez Morgan and Dave Carling played Andy Brown and Tom Finn in another closely contested match. Both sides produced high‑quality golf, but Longridge managed to edge ahead and sealed a 2&1 victory.
Match 4 In‑form duo Dave Kelly and Keith Horam met Ken Craven and Jack Taylor. Wilpshire built a strong lead, going four up after 14 holes. Credit to the Longridge pair, who fought back to take the match up the 18th, but ultimately fell just short, losing 1 down.
Match 5 Alistair Sheret and Bill Conn faced low‑handicapper Paul Wearing and Gerry Girvan. Birdies were plentiful on both sides, and the match went all the way to the 18th. With both Bill and Gerry receiving a shot, it proved decisive; Bill capitalised to secure a 1‑up win for Longridge.
Match 6 Lenny Wright and Ged Dewhurst took on Richard Dawson and Wilpshire captain Brendan Barrett. Another match that went to the final hole, with the shot Brendan received proving crucial and allowing Wilpshire to hold on for a narrow 1‑up victory.
A superb day of golf concluded with a 4–2 win for Longridge. Both teams praised the excellent condition of the course, and once again the catering was highly commended.

Cloudy skies to start off, temperatures reaching 25 degrees and a moderate to strong SWS breeze greeted the chic, dark blue boys from Mersey Valley for their inaugural NW Seniors league fixture at Hurlston Hall. Old acquaintances were reestablished and new ones made, cementing the long-standing friendship and respect between these two great clubs. The recent damp weather did not deter as both teams spread like wildfires burning up the course. At 11.04am precisely Match 1 teed off, to the shouts of encouragement and support from fellow team members.
Match 1: Hurlston’s Derek ‘Captain’ Doyle (8 shots) & Rod Duvall (11) fought a tight match against Stuart Ogilvie (0) & Peter Connor (8) which could have gone either way with Hurlston eventually running out 3&2 winners.
Match 2: Hurlston’s Chris ‘Birdie’ Lawless (5) & Dave Williamson (8) were level after 7 against Phil Bennett (0) & Colin Hardman (1) then turned on the super thrusters to prevail 5&3.
Match 3: Mersey Valley’s Paul Jackson (0) & Mark Peters (6) won a closely fought match 2&1 against Steve Williams (8) & Owen McCann (2).
Match 4: Mersey Valley’s John ‘1 Putt’ Fleck (8) & Bob Hornby (0) were never in danger against Andy ‘Can’t Buy a Putt’ Cadley (6) & Bernie Grady (11) ending their torment to win 2&1.
Match 5: Hurlston’s Peter ‘16.2’ Gaunt (8) & Gary Almond (10) played the closest of close games against Rob Atherton (0) & Tony Newall (4). 1 Up was the biggest margin throughout the match, with Peter sinking a putt on the 18th to ensure the game finished even Stevens.
Match 6: Hurlston’s James Milner (7) & Neil Burkhill (2) turned the screw from what was a level match up to the 7th hole to run out 6&5 winners against Dave ‘Captain’ Richardson (0) & Keith Weston (5).
Mersey Valley received 32 shots today compared to Hurlston’s 86 and to their enormous credit ended up with 2 wins and a half. This is Mersey Valley’s rookie year in this League…they will undoubtedly be a force to reckon with and we’d like to take this opportunity to wish them every success going forward.

Hindley Hall GC v Dean Wood GC Tuesday 28th July 2026
Would have been a breezy day at Hindley Hall today as they entertained second place Dean Wood GC to the course.
Gazza has only got 11 friends as it’s the usual protagonists in the Hindley team, however they are all really great golfers off handicaps that I dreamed of when I was younger!
First out Phil Mercer and Keith Mercer took on Ian Childs and Keith Roby giving the latter 4 shots which proved useful as a half was enjoyed by the two pairings.
Second out Keith Stokes and Kev Leyland struggled against Dave Ashall (getting 8 shots) and partner Paul Latham, with the visitors enjoying a 4 & 2 win.
Graham Rigby and Dean Benson entertained visitors Mark Pritchard and Ste Parsley again sharing the points with a half.
Gary Matthews and Keith Duxbury restored winning ways with a 2 & 1 win against Dave Jenkins and Peter Lawson.
Glen Jones and Anthony Skeat also a enjoyed a win 4 & 2 against Sidney Casey and Michael Purvis, whilst in the last match which swung the result in the away team’s favour Martin Jones and Mark Roby defeated Colin White and Alan Derbyshire 2 & 1.

Hart Common GC v Hurlston Hall GC- Thursday 23rd July 2026
The commoners awaited the arrival of Hurlston Hall GC eager to try and collect some valuable points from the back half of our fixtures. The weather was lovely a massive difference from when we played at Hurlston where most of us got drenched. Unfortunately, I personally had to sit this one out but later I got to see all the match’s finish. Watching, four of our pairs had the chance to close out their matches at the 17th hole, but credit to Hurlston they weren’t having none of it and took their games up the 18th.

Longridge welcomed newcomers Mersey Valley for the reverse fixture of the season, and with excellent weather and a well-presented course, conditions were ideal for an enjoyable day of golf.
Match 1 Roger Cain and Ged Forest faced stand-in captain Keith Weston and Tony Gallagan. The home side made a strong start, going three up through solid play. Although Mersey Valley fought back, Roger’s continued accuracy—fuelled, humorously, by a sandwich from Ged that the away pair were keen to inspect—helped secure a 3 & 2 victory for Longridge.
Match 2 Home captain Martin Gray and Alistair Sheret took on Rob Atherton and Alan Robinson. Longridge led throughout, thanks largely to an outstanding performance from Alistair, who consistently found fairways and putted superbly. The home team won convincingly, 5 & 3.
Match 3 Jez Morgan and Keith Horam played Paul Jackson and Colin Hardman. Mersey Valley established an early three-hole lead with impressive golf, but Longridge responded strongly after the turn. Excellent play from both Jez and Keith turned the match around, resulting in a 3 & 2 win for the home side.
Match 4 Gerard Dewhurst and Lenny Wright faced Phil Bennett and the in-form Simon Pendergast, fresh from a net 62 at the weekend. However, golf can change quickly, and today the Longridge pair produced exceptional form. A flurry of birdies and an outward nine of 37 (two over par) set the tone, followed by a birdie from Gerard on the 10th—converted to a net eagle. The home side secured a dominant 9 & 7 victory. An outstanding performance.
Match 5 Dave Carling and Graham White took on Dave McCann and Keith Rawlinson. This tightly contested match never saw more than a single hole between the teams. Longridge eventually edged ahead, winning 2 & 1.
Match 6 Andrew Tillotson and Bill Conn played Ray Holden and John Fleck. With handicaps closely matched, the game unfolded as expected—competitive throughout. The home side-maintained control and closed out the match 3 & 2.
Once again, credit goes to the catering team for providing an excellent meal enjoyed by both sides, and to the greenkeeping staff for presenting the course in superb condition.

Hindley Hall V Mytton Fold GC – Tuesday 21st July 2026
The summer sun and warm weather continues although a few degrees cooler, but not the hot single figure players of Hindley Hall GC. Led by Gazza Matthews (8), Graham Rigby (8), Dennis Sheffield (7), partner Paul Mercer (8), Keith Stokes (7), Glynn Jones (8) and finally Alan Derbyshire (9.9), they enjoyed a successful day against the great guys of Mytton Fold who are one of the oldest members of the League who in 2014 were League Champions.
Only Gary Aldred and regular Partner Phil Chadwick won by one at Hindley, defeating Dennis Sheffield and Phil Mercer, must have been a great game.
Seniors Captain for Mytton Alan Rogers and Rupert Frost also secured a point in a draw with Keith Stokes and Kevin Leyland.

Longridge vs Dean Wood 16 July 2026 Match Report – Captain Martin Gray
On a beautiful summer’s day, league leaders Longridge and Dean Wood met level on points, setting up a highly anticipated and finely balanced contest.
Match 1
The home pairing of Ged Dewhurst and Lenny Wright faced Steve Parsley and Mark Pritchard in a high‑quality encounter featuring excellent golf and numerous birdies. The match went to the final hole, where the away side secured a narrow 1 up victory.
Match 2
Martin Gray and Tim Forest took on Dave Sim and Bernard Ingham. Dave’s swing and ball‑striking were a pleasure to watch, complemented by Bernard’s steady support around the turn. Their composed performance earned a well‑deserved 4 & 3 win, giving Dean Wood an early two‑match advantage.
Match 3
The home side of Jez Morgan and Shaun Graham met Paul Latham and Frank Brocklebank. Longridge built a three‑hole lead after 14, but the away pair mounted an impressive fightback to trail by just one heading down 17. The home side held firm to close out a 2 & 1 victory.
Match 4
Late replacements Andrew Pearson and Andrew Tillotson faced Dave Ward and Keith Roby. In a tight and competitive match, the home pair gradually gained control and secured a 3 & 2 win. With two wins apiece, Dean Wood held a 6–4 points lead heading into the final two matches.
Match 5
Dave Carling and Graham White took on Dave Jenkins and Martin Jones in a match played to an exceptionally high standard. The home side were three up approaching the 16th, where Dave Jenkins produced a superb drive to reach the par‑4 green and reduce the deficit. He followed this with a birdie on 17, taking the match down the last at just one down. An excellent chip from Dave Carling secured the half required for a 1 up home victory, levelling the overall score at 6 points each.
Match 6
Making his debut, Ian Hacking partnered Mark Woods against John Milward and Derek Jolley. Momentum swung repeatedly in a closely contested match, but the home side eventually prevailed 2 & 1, securing the overall win for Longridge.
This fixture showcased outstanding sportsmanship from both teams—among the finest I have witnessed. The course was presented in excellent condition, and the Longridge staff once again provided an excellent meal.

Wilpshire GC v Mytton Fold GC Wednesday 15th July 2026
Windy but warm conditions greeted the players along with a delayed start but once underway the home players enjoyed early success with in the first game pair of John Glynn and retired teacher Peter Liversey overcoming by only one hole from Peter Main and Mick Mahon.
Wayne Howarth and Jack Taylor enjoyed a 2 & 1 win over Club Captain Angus Barr and Tony Monks.
Next, Ken Craven and Gerry Girvan had a 4 & 3 win over ever-present John Hindle and Frank Nickson. Semi-retired pair of Steve Scofield and Kevin Young were giving 7 shots each to Alan Rogers and Ewan Mackenzie but still managed a home 2 & 1 win.
Former Club Captains and Presidents Paul Hunter and Roger Hetherington against Mytton Fold GC former Captains Peter Kiddie and David Hargreaves had the best win, although giving 5 shots each recorded a 7 & 6 home win.
Worst result of the day from the home Clubs point of view; if they are to challenge for the League; Richard Dawson and Brendan Barrett gave away a three-up lead after nine holes only to succumb to always competitive Gary Aldred and partner Phil Chadwick, losing 3 points to Mytton Fold in a 2 & 1 loss.
However, the following day Dean Wood GC took six points from Longridge that elevated Wilpshire GC to third in the League.

Temperatures topped 28 degrees in a cloudless blue sky, with an ENE moderate breeze creating the perfect golfing conditions for the NW Seniors fixture at Hurlston Hall, against the now svelte Gaza Matthews and his band of merry men from Hindley Hall. The recent hot weather has taken its toll on the rock-hard brown fairways, and would prove to be a challenge to some more than others. Hurlston, depleted in numbers whilst marshalling the 15th at Birkdale, and Hindley, impacted by a weekend of drunken debauchery celebrating the birthday of its notably bashful Captain, set the scene for a game to live forever in the annuls of golfing history. The battle of the HHs commenced @ 11.04am precisely….
Match 1: (Hurlston) Jimmy Milner (8 shots) & Andy Hall (5) were 3 up with 5 to play, however Keith Aspey (0) & Darren Hughes (7) fought back bravely to earn a half on the last hole.
Match 2: (Hurlston) Andy Cadley (5) & Alec Campbell (8) sunk some vital points at the right time to clinch a 3&2 win over the previously undefeated Glyn Jones (0) & Tony Skeat (4).
Match 3: (Hurlston) Ray Moses (8) & Paul Halliday (1) were 4 up at the turn against the deflated Gaza Matthews (0) & Keith Duxbury (5), who fought back boldly but couldn’t prevent a 2&1 loss.
Match 4: (Hurlston) Sean Nolan (0) & Dave Hall (5) were surprisingly caught on the back foot and couldn’t prevent a 5&4 loss to Keith Stokes (1) & Kevin Leyland (5).
Match 5: (Hurlston) Paul Jackson (5) & Rod Duvall (11) played an excellent nip and tuck match against Dennis Sheffield (0) & Phil Mercer (2) winning by the smallest of margins 1 Up.
Match 6: (Hurlston) Degsy Captain Marvel Doyle (5) & Mike Aced Taylor (3) never let up and obliterated Colin White (1) & Alan Derbyshire (0) 8&6.
Overall a pleasant day was had by all, with post-match drinks on the sunny veranda being the day’s highlight for some. The match was played in the usual fun and amicable manner, with new friends made not necessarily for life, but definitely for the afternoon. We’d like to take this opportunity to wish Hindley Hall ongoing success for the remainder of the 2026 season, and pray the pesky travellers never darken their fairways and greens.

Mytton Fold GC v Deanwood GC – 9th July 2026
Another wonderful warm day greeted the players at Mytton Fold GC today with the course and in particular the greens were slick. First out Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick faced Adrian Brown and partner Andy Postlewaite suffering a 5 & 4 loss against the away pair.
Next, Peter Sharpe and Ewan MacKenzie against Mike Purvis and Derek Jolly was a close affair and finished half.
Third out, Club Captain Angus Barr and Chris Quinn against Dave Jenkins and Bernard Ingham also drew their match.
Mick Mahan and Dave Pennington faced Ian Childs and Keith Roby with the away pair winning 4 & 3.
Geoff Holtom and John Hindle lost 5 & 4 to Steve Parsley Mark Pitchard, with a home loss in the last game with Steve Worrall and Steve Goulding defeated by Paul Latham and Dougie Ashall 4 & 3.

For Mersey Valley’s first match at Hindley Hall, they were greeted with warm sunshine but a strong breeze around this wonderful parkland course.
Seniors’ organiser for Hindley Gazza is a new man with his weight loss of two stone over the last couple of months, it definitely worked as rather than telling me he is giving too many shots away he actually won. Well done slim Gazza, this result takes Hindley Hall GC to the top of the League.
First out, Graham Rigby and Dean Benson had a 5 & 4 win over Dave Richardson and John Fleck, whilst in game two Dennis Sheffield and Phil Mercer giving shot to Alan Robonson and Colin Hardman managed a creditable 4 & 2 win.
Game three saw Alan Derbyshire and Colin White record another 4 & 2 win over Simon Prendergast and Mark Peters.
Slimline Gary Matthews and Keith Duxbury had a great game against Peter Connor and low man Stuart Ogilvie with the home pair securing a 6 & 4 win.
Keith Stokes and Kevin Leyland played against Phil Bennett and Tony Newall winning 3 & 2.
Finally, Glynn Jones and ever-present Anthony Skeat recorded and secured the full house with a 5 & 4 win over Keith Weston and Paul Ikin.

Monday 6th July Hurlston Hall GC vs Wilpshire GC
Twas a sunny day in West Lancashire with temperatures topping 24 degrees, and a prevailing north westerly wind dropping to a light gentle breeze through the early afternoon. Wilpshire on a high from their previous away victory strode onto the 1st tee with a spring in their step and their batteries fully charged. They did not wilt, they did not disappoint.
Match 1. (Wilpshire) John Glynn (4 shots) & Alan Caswell (10) went 3 down early on but pulled back level before the turn, and then took control of the match to run out 3&2 winners over Derek Doyle (7) & Paul Halliday (0).
Match 2. (Hurlston) Andy Cadley (0) & Jimmy ‘1 Putt’ Milner (7) had a nip and tuck match against Paul Hunter (3) & Chris Mowbray (6) eventually winning 2&1.
Match 3. (Wilpshire) Wayne Howarth (0) & Gerry Girvan (11) went down the 18th but won 2 Up versus Lee Saunders (2) & Mike Taylor (5).
Match 4. (Wilpshire) Ken Craven (0) & Jack Taylor (6) also went down the 18th and also won 2 Up against the out-of-form Leigh McEvoy (6) & John Sharps (11).
Match 5. (Hurlston) Sean Nolan (0) & Dave Hall (8) made a fighting comeback to halve their match with Andy Bristow (5) & Kevin Young (5).
Match 6. (Wilpshire) Richard Dawson (0) & Brendan ‘I can only putt from off the green’ Barrett (10) produced a flawless performance to beat Mark Rimmer (2) & Chris Orritt (9) 3&2.
Getting trounced at home is always a bitter pill to swallow, however the pill is always easier to swallow when it’s prescribed with dignity and humility. The better team won and we’d like to finish by wishing Wilpshire continued success for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Mytton Fold GC v Longridge GC – 2nd July 2026
Warm but windy weather met the players at Mytton today, first Steve Worrall and Steve Golding inflicted a great win over former Seniors Champion Jez Morgan, who has recovered from health issues over the last year, to play golf again and along with former Kirby vacuum cleaner salesman lost to the two Steve’s 2 up to the home pair.
Peter Sharpe and Sam Cowan suffered a narrow loss by 1 over Martin Grey and Andrew Bibby.
Alan Rogers and Ewan MacKenzie suffered a loss 6 & 5 against Gerard Dewhurst and Ian Wright.
Ever presents Peter Main and Mick Mahon also lost, but this time 5 & 3 to David Kelly and Keith Horan.
Fifth match saw retired Manchester sports teacher Angus Barr and John Hindle came close but finally succumbed 3 & 2 to Dave Carling and Graham White.
Last match saw ever presents Chris Quinn and Phil Chadwick lose out to the away pair of Mark Woods and another ever present in the league Bill Conn.

Mersey Valley GC v Wilpshire GC 2nd July 2026
On a windy day across the Cheshire plains (although not a Michael Fish breeze of 89) Mersey Valley welcomed Wilpshire as their visitors.
On the day, Wilpshire brought their 'A' game and produced some excellent golf but Valley dug in and pushed Wilpshire all the way.
Terry Stanners & Simon Prendergast started in game 1 for Valley against Jack Taylor & Gerry Girvan of Wilpshire. Terry & Simon went into an early lead which they never relinquished running out winners 4 & 3.
In game 2, Stuart Ogilvie & Tony Newall (Valley) faced John Glynn & Peter Livesey (Wilpshire) even throughout, the game ended honour's even with the match halved.
Valley's Rob Atherton & John Fleck faced Wilpshire's Neil Flatley & Dave Shorrock's in game 3. Neil & Dave proved too hot to handle and went on to win the game 6 & 5.
Game 4 matched Phil Bennett & Dave Richardson of Valley with Kevin Young & Tom Flynn from Wilpshire. This game was nip and tuck with never more than one hole separating the teams with the match ultimately decided 2 & 1 in Wilpshire's favour on the 17th.
Alan Robinson & Eric Peel (Valley) matched Paul Hunter & Chris Mowbray (Wilpshire) in game 5. At some points in the game Valley were three down but Valley rallied in the later stages and just fell short losing 2 & 1.
Game 6 paired Colin Hardman & Gareth Bimson (Valley) with Andy Brown & Brendan Barrett (Wilpshire) This was as even game until the latter stages when Wilpshire pulled away giving them a 4 & 3 win.
All golfers commented on an excellent day with new associations being formed.
Afterwards both teams feasted on Chef Jim's dish of the day (marinated chicken breast) followed by hazelnut meringue washed down with cold beverages.
Valley look forward to the reverse fixture in August.

The commoners awaited the arrival of Local rivals Hindley Hall and where eager to put behind them two disappointing results. Both teams agreed to play in Handicap order, Hart Commons team having an average Index of 14.3 Compared to Hindley hall whose average index was an impressive 11.0 which shows the calibre of their team. Although The Commoners gained shots of 33, we were aware that this would be a tough game. The game was played in a great spirit and the weather was fine.

Eddie Tomlinsom (0) & Phil Hawker (8) of Hart Common beat Phil Mercer (2) & Dennis Sheffield (1) 6&5.
2nd Match:

Deanwood GC v Hurlston Hall GC – Monday 29th June
Early start times at Deanwood in the continued great weather although there was a strong wind about. First out Dave Jenkins and Frank Brocklebank (Frank giving the shots) and recorded a creditable win against Leigh MacEvoy and Chris Lawless 2 & 1.
Next saw Sid Casey and Mark Sobey against Dave Hall and Sean Nolan where the pairs could not be separated resulting a drawn game.
Third out Keith Roby and Adrian Brown who a bit like England, were not on the ball losing to ever presents Mark Rimmer and Owen McCann 2 up to he visitors.
Peter Lawson and Dave Atherton up against another regular player James Milner with low man Lee Saunders with the home pair using all their local knowledge to win 4 & 3.
Bernard Ingham and partner Dougie Ashall must have still been high on the England win as they succumbed to a great pair in Hurlston’s Steve Williams and Dave Williamson who took the points with a 5 & 4 away win.
Mark Pritchard and Mike Purvis, with Mark the low man in the four inflicted a 4 & 3 win against Andy Campbell and Andy Hall 4 & 3.
So, a draw between the two Clubs.

Mersey Valley GC v Deanwood GC – 25th June
Match Report:
'Never let it be said that only Englishmen and mad dogs go out in the midday sun. Today at Mersey Valley, golfers can be added to that list!
On the hottest day of the year so far, Dean Wood were visitors to Mersey Valley. With umbrellas protecting from the sun rather than the usual rain, both teams battled against the course and conditions.
It was a credit to both sets of players that commendable golf was played by both teams in the searing heat.
Mersey Valley prevailed by winning four games to two, giving them 8 league points with 6 to Dean Wood.
Afterwards, players cooled in the clubhouse with a selection of cold beverages (soft of course ;) and recovered their strength with Chef Jim's lasagna followed by strawberries and cream (good prep for Wimbledon!).
David Richardson and Mark Peters recorded a 3 &2 win against Andy Postlethwaite and Bernard Ingam, whilst in the second match Keith Roby and Ian Childs held on to a great one up win against Paul Ikin and Tony Callagham.
Third match saw Rob Atherton and Peter Connor secure another one up win against Ray Dee and Dave Jenkins.
Ray Holden and David McCann had shots over Steve Parsley and partner Ian Crossley and used them to secure a 2-up win.
Paul Latham and Frank Brocklebank had 4 and 5 shots over Stuart Ogilvie and Denis Ormesher using them wisely to secure an away win 1 up, close match.
Finally, Alan Robinson and Colin Hardman secured the winning points with a 3 & 2win ovwr S. Casey and Ronnie Cannon.

Longridge GC v Hindley Hall GC — 25 June
The opening match saw Dave Kelly and Keith Horam face Glyn Jones and Bernie Blood. The Longridge pairing, unbeaten this season, continued their outstanding run with a commanding 6&4 victory.
In the second match, Roger “The Ferret” Cain and Jed Forest took on Keith Stokes and Kevin Leyland in a closely fought contest, with the home side eventually securing a 3&2 win.
The third match featured home captain Martin Gray and Alistair Sheret against Hindley Hall captain Gary Hughes and Keith Duxbury. This proved to be a tight encounter throughout. Hindley Hall’s impressive putting earned them a two‑hole lead with three to play, but the Longridge pair battled back to level the match on the 17th. All square on the 18th tee, a superb second shot from Keith Duxbury ultimately clinched a one‑up victory for the visitors.
In the fourth match, Jed Dewhurst and Leonard Wright met Keith Aspey and Dean Benson. The Hindley Hall duo established an early three‑hole advantage, but Longridge steadily regained momentum and closed out the match on the 18th green.
The fifth match saw Dave Carling and Trevor Walker take on Dennis Sheffield and Phil Mercer. The home pair were in control throughout and recorded an impressive 6&4 win.
In the final match, Andrew Tillotson and Bill Conn faced Colin White and Alan Derbyshire. Another tightly contested game, the Longridge pairing eventually edged ahead to secure a two‑up victory.
Credit is once again due to the greenkeeping team for presenting the course in superb condition, and to the catering staff for providing an excellent post‑match meal.

Wilpshire GC v Hart Common GC – 24th June
Superb ideal weather greeted both teams to the Club.
Paul Wareing, the low player giving the shots, with ever present Gerry Girvan against Dave Smith and Eric Dawber produced a great match with the home pair coming home with a 2- up win.
Second out, John Glyn and Peter Liversey again had a 2 up win against Chris Radcliffe and Steve Edmonds. Next Debutant Darren Snook partnered Jack Taylor and against Glyn Crank and John Armstrong recorded a great 6 & 5 home win.
Lenny Gillett, for once at home, along with Kevin Young had a super match against low man Eddie Tomlinson and partner Phil Hawker with nothing between both recording a half.
Part time dentist, and full-time golfer Steve Schofield along with partner Wayne Howarth had a great win 5 & 4 against Roy Smith and Nigel Nettlefield.
Last to play Brendan Barrett and Richard Dawson recorded a 4 & 3 win against Mark Dacre and Tony Whitefoeld.

Andy Cadley the new Seniors organiser at Hurlston Hall is passionate about his golf and makes sure his team players are always available and ready for a great day for the weather and the course. Up against Mytton Fold GC with players like Gary Aldred and Steve Worrall rarely beaten.
So, today first out Derek Doyle and Kevin Spooner took on Mytton pair of Chris Quinn and Dave Proctor with the home side recording a 3 & 2 win.
Next, Andy Cadley, giving the shots and Dave Williamson played against Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick with the home pair emerging 1 up winners.
James Milner and Ian Tolman against Alan Rogers and Rupert Frost played an equally close match winning 2 up.
Chris Orritt and Dave Hall seemed to overwhelmed John Hindle and Geoff Holtom recording the best result of the day winning 7 & 5.
Ever present Ray Moses and partner Chris Lawless took on Peter Kiddie and Dave Pennington, securing a 6 & 5 win.

Mytton Fold entertained Mersey Valley at the Langho course with for once sunshine!
Angus Barr and Tony Monks recorded a 3 & 2 win over visitors Tony Callaghan and Tony Bird.
Next, Gary Aldred and Phil Chadwick recorded the best win of the day with a 6 & 5 win over Keith Rawlinson and Mark Peters.
Alan Rogers and John Hindle took on Jim Kayes and Phil Bennett winning a close game 2 up.
Steve Worrall and Steve Golding could not keep up the winning home wins, losing out to Peter Connor and Colin Hardman, 3 & 2.
Peter Main and David Eyles restored winning ways for the home side winning 4 & 3 against David Richardson and Tony Newall.
Last out Geoff Holtom and Peter Sharpe could not get past David McCann and John Fleck losing a close game 1 down.

Match Report – Longridge GC vs Hurlston Hall GC – 18th June

Longridge hosted Hurlston Hall today in our first home fixture of the season. With fine weather and calm conditions, an excellent afternoon of golf was in prospect.
Match 1
Roger “The Golden Ferret” and Ged Forest faced Captain Derek Doyle and Andy Hall.
A tightly contested match throughout, the home pair secured victory on the 16th,
winning 3 & 2.
Match 2
Home captain Martin Gray and Shaun Graham took on Andy Cadley and Ian Tolman. With evenly matched handicaps, the game was competitive from the start. Longridge moved 2 up after eight holes, but the visitors fought back to go dormy 2 up with two to play. A determined finish from the home side took the match up the 18th, where a superb second shot from Shaun to 15 feet secured a well-earned halved match.
Match 3
Dave Carling and Jez Morgan met Dave Hall and James Milner. Despite Jez giving away 11 shots, the deficit proved too much to overcome, and the away side claimed the win 2 up.
Match 4
In-form duo Dave Kelly and Keith Horam faced Mark Rimmer and Paul C. Jackson. The home side dominated from the outset, closing out the match by the 12th hole with an emphatic 7 & 6 victory — a margin once known as “a dog licence”. A superb performance.
Match 5
Ged Dewhurst and Lenny Wright took on Martin Isherwood and Leigh McEvoy. The visitors started strongly, going 3 up early, but steady, composed play from the Longridge pair saw them claw their way back before ultimately securing a 2 & 1 win.
Match 6
Andrew Tilitson and Bill Conn faced Chris Lawless and Dave Williamson. Another close contest unfolded, with the home side finishing strongly to win 3 & 2.
All 24 players extend they’re thanks to the greenkeeping team for presenting the course in excellent condition, and to the catering staff for providing another outstanding meal.

Deanwood GC v Hart Common GC Thursday 18th June
Top of the table clash at Deanwood early in the season in great weather, saw the home team recording a sensational win against a very experienced Hart Common NWSL team.
Mike Purvis and Dave Atherton had a great game against Paul Rushby and Nigel Nettlefield securing a close 1 up win for the home pair.
Next, Dave Jenkins and Martin Jones recorded a 5 & 4 win against Glyn Crank and John Armstrong.
Third out Tony Robinson Roy Cunliff suffered the same fate as Glyn and John losing by the same score 5 & 4 against Steve Parsley and Mark Pritchard.
Ian Childs and Keith Roby also had a creditable win 5 & 3 against ever present Tom Aspey and Tony Whitehead.
Andy Postlethwaite and Bernard Ingham had the best winning margin against Eddie Tomlinson and Damian Walshe recording a 6 & 4 win.
Last out saw Dave Ward and Peter Lawson took part in a close match against Stewart Brooks and Chris Radcliffe managing a 1 up win.
This result elevates Deanwood GC to the top of the league table.

Hindley Hall GC v Wilpshire GC Tuesday 16th June
Clear sky and warm weather greeted players at parkland Hindley Hall GC, with Brendan Barrett performing miracles in gathering 12 players for the match.
First out, Keith Stokes and Kev Leyland took on reliable John Glyn and Jack Taylor with the home pair recording a creditable 3 & 2 win.
Gary Matthews and Ken Duxbury playing Lenny Gillett and Gerry Girvan, Gary had to give 11 shots to Gerry, but the home team prevailed winning 2 up, close match.
Third out saw Dave Sheffield and Paul Mercer up against in form Kev Young with Ken Craven. Very close handicaps but the home team ran out winners 6 & 5.
Next, Benson and Hughes (no first names Gazza), played against Brian Clews and Paul Hunter with a creditable 3 & 2 win for the home side.
Colin Jones and League President Andrew Skeat entertained Wayne Howarth and Brendan Barrett with the visitors being the only pair to secure a half and a point.
Colin White and Andy Derbyshire took on stalwarts of the League in Dave Hawsworth and Phil Burgess, taking no prisoners in a 6 & 5 win. Great to see Phil Burgess playing again after a long period of illness.
This result leapfrogs local rivals Hart Common GC to become League Leaders.

Deanwood GC v Hindley Hall GC 11th June 2026
There were to be three games today, but unfortunately the weather forecast was correct with heavy and intermittent rain throughout the day. Two of the three games were being rearranged apart from Dean Wood, Adrian Brown explains:
When the team from Hindley arrived, the weather was a little adverse to say the least.
Several wanted to cancel but after a course inspection by both captains and a vote it was decided to continue.
With the aid of squeegees for the greens, preferred lies through the green and taking the bunkers out of play we completed 18 holes despite the rain never stopping. The course held up well even in the rainy conditions and a hearty curry helped all to get warm again.
First out Dave Jenkins and Bernard Ingham secured a great start for the home team with a 6 & 5 win against visitors Colin White and Alan Derbyshire.
Next senior organiser of Deanwood Adrian Brown partnered Frank Brocklehurst to record another emphatic win 6 & 4 against Graham Rigby and Dennis Sheffield.
The third game ended in a draw between Ray Dee and Martin Jones and Hindley pair of Keith Stokes and Kev Leyland.
Then came the surge by Hindley Hall with, first Sid Casey and Andy Postlethwaite succumbed to Keith Aspey and Phil Mercer play but only by 3 & 1.
Ian Childs and Gary Haley had a close match against Glynn Jones and Anthoney Skeet (new President of the League) losing out by one to the Hindley boys.
Last out, Harry Milligan and Mark Pritchard played against Gary Mathews and Bryn Hill with the away pair recording a 3 & 1 win. With the new 75% difference Gazza was only giving away 7 shots!

The commoners awaited the arrival of Mytton Fold GC eager to get their first game under their belt. Hart Commons team having an average Index of 13.8 Compared to Mytton Fold whose average index was 20.1 fielding 8 players whose Indexes where 20.4 and above, the commoners thinking they would have a battle ahead, giving away 66 shots. Total shots Hart Common would get was 23 compared to Mytton Fold 89. The game was played in a great spirit and the weather was fine.

Whilst players assembled at Mytton Fold it was clear from the weather that there would be no play as the rain was relentless. The game has been rearranged for Thursday 10th September.
Mersey Valley GC v Longridge GC 4th June 2026

For their inaugural home league match Mersey Valley welcomed Longridge.
Weather on the day being very blustery with occasional squally showers making playing conditions very challenging. Despite this, both teams produced some enterprising golf.
Handicaps for both teams were very competitive, meaning all but one game being decided by the last 1 or 2 holes.
After the match, windswept players were greeted by Chef Jim's exceptional fish &chips followed by strawberry meringue.
Result: Mersey Valley 3 games. Longridge: 3 games.
League points: Mersey Valley GC 6points v Longridge GC: 9points.
Valley looks forward to receiving their next visitors, Hurlston Hall, on 11th June.
Wilpshire GC v Deanwood GC 3rd June 2026
Weather forecast for Langho and Wilpshire was not good with intermittent rain forecast for the whole day. However, the weather was actually kind to the players with only one shower during play.
First match saw John Glynn and Jack Taylor with a 3 & 2 win in what was a very close game against visitors Steve Parsley and Jon Millward, the latter giving up to four shots to the other players.
Next, Paul Wareing (sporting a very smart new beard) and Roger Hetherington were up against Gary Haley and David Sim. Although Paul was giving the shots the home pair ran out winners 2 & 1.
Loveable Yorkshire man Richard Dawson and former HSBC bank manager, Captain and President Paul Hunter didn’t do quite as well as the preceding players, losing 2 & 1to Ronnie Cannon and Ray Dee. Both Ronnie and Richard were giving the shots here.
Paul Gilston and Gerry Girvan restored home pride by winning 5 & 4 against Paul Latham and Dougie Ashall.
Ever reliable pairing of Ken Craven and Tom Finn came unstuck against Bernard Ingham and Andy Postlethwaite, losing 2 & 1 in what was a tight encounter.
Last to play the now proud owner of a posh Porsche after ice skating his beloved Jaguar off the bypass to West Yorkshire to the scrapyard he and Brendan Barrett used their local knowledge to overcome Ian Childs and Peter Lawson 3 & 2.
Dean Wood are a great asset to the League, not only in their playing abilities but more importantly a great group of guys.

It was a match played in the true spirit of the game with both teams winning 3 matches each Course and catering were the best and the bad weather was mostly avoided apart from the last groups 5 and 6 who caught it on the last few holes

Deanwood GC v Longridge GC – 28th May
I remember the last time Longridge GC lost the opening start to a season; 29th May 2024 at Wilpshire GC, losing by one point. This was different, the results:
Dave Jenkins/Derek Jolly overcame Martin Grey/John Cheadle (who received 11 shots) with a resounding win 5&4.
Second out Mike Purvis/Keith Roby again, were winning for the home side, although a much tighter game against Andrew Moreton/Ged Dewhurst with a one up result.
Next, Steve Parsley/Mark Pritchard played against ever present’s Andrew Tilotson/Trevor Walker with the home side recording a creditable 4 & 2 win.
David Sim/Gary Haley, playing against Roger Cain/Ged Forrest had no idea that they were up against serial winners from the League Champions losing 3&2, in what was a great game.
Andy Postlethwaite/Peter Lawson recorded a great 2 up win against ever present’s Dave Carling/Bill Conn.
Finally, Dougie Ashall/Paul Latham completed the home team winning ways with a tight 1 up win against Dave Kelley/Keith Horam.
So, a resounding win for Dean Wood.

First match result of the season saw Ken Finch and Keith Aspey defeat Derek Doyle and Leigh McEvoy 3/2. Dennis Sheffield and Graham Rigby suffered a defeat against new Hurlston Hall Seniors organiser Andy Cadley and partner John Williams.
Sean Nolan and Tom Tolman also were unbeaten for Hurlston Hall with a credited draw against Keith Stokes and Kevin Leyland.
Colin White and Mick Lowe restored winning ways for the home side with a one up win against Chris Orritt and Gary Almond.
Glynn Jones and Anthoney Skeat recorded a 3/2 win over ever-present players Ray Moses and Chris Lawless.
Finally, Gary Matthews and Alan Frost recorded a half against Peter Gaunt and Andy Hall.

The commoners eagerly awaited the arrival of new boys Mersey Valley. Hart Commons team having an average Index of 13.8
Compared to Mersey Valley whose average index was13.7, the difference being only 0.1 would indicate that this could be a well fought out match.
The Total shots Hart Common would get was 40 compared to Mersey Valley 40 no difference. The game was played in a great spirit and from the good time we had would indicate that Mersey Valley would settle well in the league.

Annual General Meeting at Mytton Fold GC 14th May 2026
The meeting was opened at 9:30am with apologies from Gary Mathews and David Richardson.
There were no challenges to the Secretary nor any new proposals.
Concerns from the Administrator as to the absence of teams from two Clubs and it should be reminded to those absent is that the two events of the year, apart from the events, help funds to the Clubs awarded Presidency for the year. It is a requirement for all Clubs to attend.
The accounts were presented, now showing a surplus following a difficult financial period. Eight Clubs make all the difference and we welcome Mersey Valley GC to the League.
AGM Golf
Sixty-two players braved the elements with good weather to start, but with a poor forecast for later in the day. We weren’t to be disappointed, when we had to suspend play for a short period, but resumed and after a card play-off 88 points sealed the win, Ronnie Dee (DW), Chris Lawless (HH), Dave Smith (HC) and Andrew Tillitson (L) being the recipients of cash prizes.
Second were Stephen Golding (MF), Dave Williamson (HH), G Haley (DW) and Keith Horam (L).
